Field of Dreams, 1989. This is often misquoted as “If you build it, they will come”, and has been used ever since as an excuse to follow your dreams despite the obstacles. In the move, Kevin Costner’s character Ray is contemplating his complicated relationship with his deceased father, who was a huge baseball fan. While Ray is walking through his cornfield late one night he, surprisingly, does not get attacked by an alien or group of possessed demon children. Instead, he hears a voice telling him “If you build it, he will come”. Ray takes it to mean he needs to build a baseball diamond within his cornfield, and you will have to see the rest of the movie yourself if you want to find out the rest.
