This often quoted snippet is from the 1948 classic “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”. Although probably few people have actually seen the entire movie, this line is spoken when prospector Dobbs (played by Humphrey Bogart) demands ID when some banditos show up pretending to be the police. This is definitely not the line you want to hear when asking someone for proper identification, and if you get this response they probably don’t really have any authority.
