hadmeathello

14. “You had me at hello.”

This overused phrase is from the 1996 move Jerry Maguire, which also spawned a couple of other popular phrases at the time, including “You complete me” and “Show me the money”. This one, however, is still popular and used across the interweb. Dorothy, played by Renae Zellwegger, says this line just after Jerry shows up at her door after an extended breakup. He starts off with a simple “hello” and then proceeds to give a long-winded speech pronouncing his undying love for her. Just as he takes a breath to continue, she interrupts him with “Shut Up. Just shut up. You had me at ‘hello’”. It is now used as a phrase that expresses affection and or confirmation.
